Title:
"Misunderstood"
This week is to create 5 images and forming it into a short story. The story can be either something happened in real life or something fictional. I choosed fictional story because I couldn't think of something interesting that can be drawn into a micro-comic recently.
Tools used: 0.5 2b mechanical pencil, 0.5 black gel pen, 0.8 fineliner, sketchbook, ruler, eraser
Image 1:
Protagonist (Austin) walking his "best friend" (Loki- a mini dachshund) in the park on a sunny day during summer break, whistling to his favourite song of the week "Out of Time" by The Weeknd.
Image 2:
Antagonist (Chloe) which is Austin's classmate and also his crush was also jogging in the park. So she saw Austin and decided to came up and say hi. Chloe was trying to be friendly and just naturally said some words that made Austin misunderstood.
Image 3:
The confident Austin misunderstood Chloe's meaning when she was just mere greeting Austin. So Austin replied something too honest which he could have just kept it to himself.
Image 4:
Chloe thought it was quite an awkward moment and didn't know how to respond Austin, so she decided to just say bye and continue her jogging. Austin at that moment still didn't know what really happened and wished he could spend more time with his crush.

Austin was quite sad and miserable, he turned back and ask Loki what he did that made his crush runaway from him.
Image 6:
Loki was tired of Austin's overconfident and impulse characteristic so all Loki did is gave Austin an exaggerate side eye.

Process:
I started by drawing each character on a page finding the best style and shape I like. Then I start to drawing out the square for the story, then started to briefly sketch in the squares to see how thing fit inside. Finally I started to draw with pen on a new page and finish the story.

Small Reflection:
During the studio, I learned few ways to create expression of a face and different kinds of comic creating methods. By drawing out the face templates and drawing different eyebrows and mouth, I think it allows us to find the best expression we are looking for the sotry. At first I misunderstood the meaning of using pen draw as the week focus is improving pen drawing technique, so after I sketched finish, I transfer it into Adobe illustrator to trace it out and because using technology, it is easy to copy and paste so all the characters look almost the same on each image. However after I realised this week is mainly focusing on pen drawing technique, I sent an email to ask my tutor Chris are we suppose to draw with pen instead of Adobe Illustrator, and then I only find out we should be drawing with pen. It took me some practice but I tried my best, I still think the hardest part is to keep everything similar in each image, I think there is still place for improvement were like the dog is still kinda different from each image as well as the character's face and body shape.
